Stahly Haggis to Kilimanjaro
- Latest Update!

Ken Stahly writes:

We reached the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro at 0930 (local time) on Thursday 19th January.  From left to right the team is:  Iain Taylor, Bill Stewart, Mairead Stewart,
Sue Stahly, Ken Stahly, Trevor Francis.  As you can see, Sue is holding a can of
Stahly Scotch Haggis which I later gave to the head guide, Jonas, who had never heard
of haggis before but  he was very pleased to receive the gift and looked forward to trying it.
I also gave Jonas and the porters some whisky to drink with the haggis.

Stahly Quality Foods' haggis has now officially reached the roof of Africa.

This challenge was the hardest thing that any of us have ever done but, as you can imagine, we are all really pleased and happy to have made the trip and to have
completed such a huge achievement.

All six of us were sponsored to take on this challenge and the benefits of this was what kept us motivated to reach the top.  The funds raised have produced a book which will educate all primary school children in Tanzania on dealing with life with albinism which
is a huge problem in Africa.  After returning from the climb, we attended a small ceremony to hand the books over to a dermatology centre where research is being carried out and
it was excellent to see first hand how our efforts translated to helping real lives.  Several other Tanzanian charities will also benefit from the donations and we also visited some
of these in the days following the climb.

It is too early to give a figure on the sum raised as money is still coming in but it is not
too late to make a donation. Just follow the link -

Kilimanjaro Summit

Stahly Haggis to Kilimanjaro

Ken Stahly writes:

I will be climbing Mount Kilimanjaro in January along with my wife and four others.  We are now well into our training programme for the climb which starts on 13th January 2012 to raise funds for three Tanzanian projects.

You will see from the Kirkcaldy Rotary website the amount of work that has already been done to improve the lives of children and young people in Tanzania but we want to do more. This climb will hopefully raise more funds which will all go directly to these projects.

We know it will be quite a challenge to reach the summit but having the support and backing of friends and colleagues, will inspire us to succeed.  You can follow our progress from training through to the trip, the climb and the project visit as we up-date the website.

Please support us if you can and help us reach our target.

The Scientific Exploration Society expedition to the Gobi

In July 2011, Colonel John Blashford-Snell led a 16 day expedition to the remote southern Gobi Desert in Mongolia.

This involved several days travel on Bactrian camels as well as a visit to the historical Ongi Monastery, the remains of the ancient city of Karakorum. The team also saw the wild Przewalski horses that have been re-introduced to Mongolia.

The successful trip to the Southern Gobi included drilling a well to give clean water at the site of a future community centre for up to 3000 nomads.

Colonel John and his team enjoyed their traditional Burns Supper on this expedition with supplies of Stahly Quality Foods' tinned haggis. Photographs of the celebration can be seen here. Read more about the July 2011 expedition to the Gobi Desert in Mongolia with Colonel John Blashford-Snell.

We can confidently boast that our canned haggis has seen all five continents and is extremely popular around the globe.  As it travels well and does not need refrigeration, it is always the first choice for The Scientific Exploration Society.
